As the school year ends for many young Texas students, most thoughts will be on summer fun at the water park or camp.
But across the state, several K-12 campuses will be bustling with activity as the final push begins to complete construction projects for August openings. ADAMS' K-12 design team is a part of this effort for two brand new schools in East Texas -- Jones-Boshears Elementary School in Tyler and Forest Park Middle School in Longview. As each school enters this last phase of construction, ADAMS is working closely with our architectural and construction partners to oversee final details. Jones-Boshears Elementary School is a unique concept combining a traditional elementary with a school for special needs students. The new Wayne D. Boshears Center for Exceptional Programs will provide better accessibility for its students with easy to navigate ramps, wider doorways and a playground designed specifically for children with physical limitations. Connected to the Boshears facilities will be the Mattie Jones Elementary. Combined, this impressive campus totals 135,000 square feet and sits on 14.3 acres. A common courtyard sits between the two schools and will be used to encourage interaction among all students. This is the first elementary school project ADAMS has done that included an on-site horse arena. Additionally, the new campus incorporates several green technologies such as energy-efficient lighting and cooling equipment that will significantly reduce energy costs for Tyler ISD. Forest Park Middle School, funded through a 2008 Longview ISD bond, is a $34M replacement campus for grades 6th through 8th and includes athletic practice fields. ADAMS developed the civil, landscape, and irrigation designs for this beautiful new campus carved into a 32-acre wooded site with steep natural grades. Careful analysis was done to orient the site to take advantage of the steep grades without impacting the upland forestry protected areas. Saving trees...protecting the natural habitat...creating a terrific campus for the kids – it's what we do! As these school projects come to a close, ADAMS is actively working on civil and landscape designs for a new performing arts center in Mansfield ISD, district-wide campus additions for Sulphur Springs ISD, a new elementary school for Grandview ISD and renovations to Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie ISD.
